This is especially true for debut authors. Book preorder numbers are included with first week book sales- and this means that preorders can help get a book onto a bestseller list!

By placing a preorder for a book, you’re letting the world know that there is a demand for whatever author/genre/rep you’re supporting. Queer characters! Racial diversity! Dragons! Smut! ANYTHING! Think of it as providing feedback on what books you want to see on shelves with your preorder dollars.

Authors and publishers frequently offer little incentives for preordering their books- pins, bookmarks, tote bags, stickers, keychains, art prints- all you have to do is provide proof of purchase and in a few weeks you’ll have a cute new thing to stash in a drawer somewhere!
Have you even lived if you haven’t experienced the joy of receiving a book in the mail that you forgot you preordered? It’s like a birthday present to yourself except it’s not your birthday. Maybe it is, we don’t know when your birthday is- just trust us, it’s fun.

We’ll update this as soon as we regain our train of thought.
