Excellent question! It’s pretty subjective, but here are some guidelines:
New- A book that has not been read and is in pristine and flawless condition. This is the book that Aunt Peg bought for you as a graduation present and just isn’t your cuppa.
Like New- A book in this condition should look like it was freshly plucked off the shelf of your favorite bookstore. It may have been read with once gloves on and the spine was barely cracked. Just kidding. However, a “Like New” book should not have any signs of wear, no marks on or in the pages, and no dog-eared corners. Invest in a bookmark. Or use a receipt.
Great- Just a step below “Like New”- a book in “Great” condition still looks pretty shiny, but may look a bit read. Maybe there’s a slight scuff on the cover or a corner was slightly squashed during shipping.
Good- A book in “Good” condition is completely readable but has been noticeably read. Minor markings, cracks on the spine, slight page bending, stickers, etc.- as long as the book can still be read easily without much interference, it’s “Good.”
Fair- A readable book in one piece with very noticeable wear or imperfections. Severe spine cracking, heavy writing or highlighting, a torn or missing cover, etc.- would all put a book in the “Fair” category.
Poor- A book in “Poor” condition may have missing pages, a very damaged spine, or any other issue that would cause a book not to be readable.
What came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer to this question simply depends on how you look at it. Books are listed by the seller at a price that includes shipping costs. The cost of the shipping label is covered by the seller, but technically the buyer is paying for shipping by purchasing the book.
Are we on the same page? Excellent.
Simply put- buyers love to see one price! It is scientific fact that viewing the words “Shipping Included” causes elevated levels of dopamine in the brains of online shoppers, and therefore they are more likely to complete a purchase.* We decided to make prices as simple as possible- the listed price covers the book and delivery.
*This is probably not scientific fact, but it sounded good so we went with it.
Is there a book you’re coveting that isn’t listed? Add it to your Wish List! You’ll get a notification if the book is added for sale, but act fast! You never know how many people are wishing for the same book, and when it’s gone, it’s gone!
You may notice that you can add several editions of a book to your Wish List. If you’re looking for a specific edition, make sure to only add the copy with the ISBN that matched the book you’re looking for. If you don’t have a preference, add as many editions to your Wish List as you’d like!
